Bend, Oregon is a small town on the Deschutes River. West are the Cascade Mountains' lakes and peaks, which include multi-use trails and ski resorts. A trail from the town leads up Pilot Butte (an extinct volcano). South, the High Desert Museum displays the local environment with live wildlife exhibits and history. The Lava River Cave is a large lava tube that can be accessed via stairs located in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.
