Fort Myers Beach, located off the southwest Florida coast, is a small town on Estero island. The Gulf of Mexico is a long, sandy beach. The Ostego Bay Marine Science Center displays local marine life. Trails run to the east through Matanzas Pass Preserve, a nature sanctuary. The 1900s Mound House is an archaeological museum built on an old Calusa Indian shell mound. Times Square has shops and restaurants.
